Urgência: imagens e montagem

Abstract

Urgency: images and montage is a study on images. It is about trying to understand how visual images produce meaning. With this search, I arrived at the place where the meaning of the images is not fixed and depends on what will be juxtaposed to it, be it text as narratives or subtitles, text as new images or other visual images. This juxtaposition is the montage exercise. This montage may be didactic (which in this study is named as linear montage) or non-didactic (named as contrasting montage). Urgency is also the title of the practical work in a magazine format, resulting from the theoretical research that preceded it. In printed format, the magazine seeks in practice the process of the contrast montage presented in the work. The method of film editing was applied to the magazine because it is, like cinema, a sequence of images. In the case of a magazine, the contrast between the images is further emphasized by supposing one image next to the other simultaneously (in an open magazine we have two pages side by side), as well as a larger sequence when considering the magazine as a whole.
