Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do sulfato de zinco (ZnSO4) sobre os parí­¢metros hematológicos de girinos de rã-touro, Lithobates catesbeianus, por meio de testes de toxicidade aguda e crônica. Embora a toxicidade de zinco para várias espécies de peixes já tenha sido estudada, a toxicidade deste metal não é bem conhecida para todos os organismos aquáticos, principalmente para os anfí­­bios. A ação desse í­­on metálico sobre o sistema respiratório dos peixes ocorre pela precipitação da secreção da mucosa produzida pelas brí­¢nquias dos peixes, que morrem por asfixia. Os testes de toxicidade aguda mostraram que a CL50-96h (concentração letal média) do sulfato de zinco foi 2,78 mg L-1, ní­­vel inferior ao estabelecido pelo CONAMA. Os testes de toxicidade crônica foram realizados em três concentrações: CL50-96h/100 (0,0278 mg ZnSO4 L-1), CL50-96h/10 (0,278 mg ZnSO4 L-1) e CL50-96h (2,78 mg ZnSO4 L-1), durante 312 horas em sistema semiestático, além de um grupo controle (sem adição de sulfato de zinco). As análises dos parí­¢metros hematológicos evidenciaram a ocorrência de alterações, indicando a possibilidade de ocorrerem efeitos crônicos em girinos de L. catesbeianus, que devem ser melhor estudados.
