Petiveria alliacea L. (Phytolaccacea) é uma planta herbácea nativa da floresta Amazônica e das áreas tropicais da América do sul, central, Caribe e África, de grande importância na medicina tradicional. Essa espécie vegetal tem sido amplamente utilizada em diversas aplicações como, por exemplo, antireumático, antineoplásico, antigripal, antitussígeno, analgésico, inseticida, ascaricida, bactericida e fungicida. Atualmente os microrganismos patogênicos estão adquirindo resistência aos antibióticos tradicionais, e a procura por novos agentes antimicrobianos a partir de plantas vem sendo intensificada. Nesta perspectiva, avaliou-se o efeito antimicrobiano de extratos brutos (partes aéreas) de P. alliacea frente à s bactérias (Bacilus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis) e leveduras (Candida parapsilosis, Candida kefyr e Candida albicans) utilizando técnicas de microdiluições. Resultados promissores foram observados para o extrato etanólico 70% v/v que apresentou concentração mínima inibitória (CMI) entre 250-760 μg/mL para leveduras. Para bactérias a CMI variou entre entre 240-3960 μg/mL, dependente das soluções extrativas analisadas.
Petiveria alliacea L. (Phytolaccacea) is an herbaceous plant of great importance in traditional medicine. This species have been widely used in several applications such as antirheumatic, anticarcinogenic, anti-flu, antitussive, analgesic, insecticidal, acaricidal, as well as bactericide and fungicide. Currently, the pathogenic microorganisms are acquiring resistence against the traditional antibiotics, and the search for new herbal antimicrobial agents has been intensified. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal and antibacterial activity of several leaf crude extracts of P. alliacea against several strains of bacterias and yeasts namely Bacilus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Candida parapsilosis, Candida kefyr and Candida albicans, using microdilution method. Promising results were observed for the 70% v/v ethanolic extract which presented minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) from 250 to 760 μg/mL for yeast. For the bacteria strains tested the MIC ranged between 240 to 3960 μg/mL, depending of the extractive solution tested.
