Abstract

The development of the construction sector has been causing great concern stemming from the increase in the amount of waste generated, as an accelerated stocking in standard landfills is expected in addition to a growth in the incorrect disposal of this waste. In this context, it is proposed the reuse of ceramic brick residues discarded in construction sites (RCV) for the production of natural rubber composites (BN) called BN/RCV. The residue was crushed, sifted in mesh 170 and incorporated into bn by means of the open mixer cylinder, in the proportions of 10, 20, 30 and 40 phr(per hundredrubber), comparing to natural rubber without residue. An expansive rubber composite cum was also developed with different loads of 20.40 and 60 phr and a composite without load for results analysis. To characterize the composite, techniques of mechanical stress/strain testing, abrasion resistance, compressive strength, cross-link density, hardness and structural and morphological characterization analyses were used by x-ray flowering and scanning electron microscopy techniques. The use of the residue decreased the optimum vulcanization time by up to 42.9% for composites with 40 phr, which represents an energy gain for the industrial process in addition to increasing tensile strength when incorporated up to 20 phr, proving that RCV can be used as reinforcement load in natural rubber composites. In the expansive composite the composite with 20 phr presented better results for compression, being applied in low office partitions.
