Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of different adhesive systems after different treatments of normal and artificially hypermineralized dentin. Eighty (N=100) healthy bovine teeth had been selected and will have extensive dentin exposure. The groups were divided according to the adhesive system used: AdheSE and Clearfil SE Bond. Each subgroup received five different treatments: (1) applying the adhesive system following manufacturer's recommendations, (2) etching with 37% phosphoric acid for 15 " + Er, Cr: YSGG laser + adhesive, (3) Er, Cr: YSGG laser + etching with 37% phosphoric acid for 15 " + adhesive, (4) etching with 37% phosphoric acid + adhesive, (5) Er,Cr: YSGG laser + adhesive. Cylinders of composite resin (Z350 XT FiltekTM - 3M ESPE) were positioned and photoactivated for 40s. After a period of storage in a humid environment for 24 hours at 37°C, the specimens were submitted to the microshear bond strength test. Differences between groups were determined using ANOVA and Tukey’s statistical tests at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the group treated with acid + adhesive using the AdheSE system provided the highest values of microshear bond strength. It can be concluded that laser pretreatment did not affect negatively the bond strength of the self-etching adhesive systems on artificially hypermineralized dentin.
