Abstract

The projectual process of clothing pieces comprises successive steps, including the phase of textile materials selection, which is perceived by many authors as crucial in the performance of the conceived product. The selected fabrics have impact on the userʼs acceptance and wellbeing, and, from the companyʼs perspective, they reverberate in the agility of the collection production, as well as in the commercial success of this, predominant topic at the critical moment that affects the textile and apparel sector. Unlike the scenario encountered by engineers, who rely on various supports to make the materials selection in an effective way; designers have experienced many difficulties in the adaptation of these tools to their daily work. In the framework of fashion design, specifically, research and initiatives alluding to the selection of materials are still scarce, in a way that it can’t be found properly structured mechanisms that can be used by professionals within the industry. Thus, the goal of this project is to create a tool that supports the selection process of the fabrics that will be used in a developing collection. For the realization of this project, it was made a study case, which contains, among the methodological steps: the development of an bibliographical review, followed by the realization of an initial investigation with fashion designers, a focus group with these same professionals, and a final research with mobile application developers, in view of the conception of the tool developed as the result of this study.
