Abstract

Research on the management of grazing by animals has been performed in order to find the optimum point for the use of fodder, which aims to better animal performance, in order that the consumer is profoundly determined by the supply of forage. The higher the dry matter yield of pasture may be greater carrying capacity, which refers to the number or stocking that can meet the forage, ensuring high gain per animal and output per area beyond the maintenance of its continuity. Especially adequate intake of this forage should occur, particularly in terms of ambiance and animal behavior. The objective of this review is to discuss the effects of herbage mass in relation to consumption, performance and behavior of the grazing animal.
