Abstract

Las aves son animales uricotélicos, es decir, que excretan el ácido úrico como producto final del metabolismo del nitrógeno que proviene de la alimentación o del catabolismo de los tejidos corporales. Considerada una patología metabólica, la gota úrica se caracteriza por la acumulación anormal de cristales de ácido úrico de dos maneras distintas: gota articular y gota visceral. Este trabajo reporta un caso de gota visceral en un tucán (Ramphastos toco), diagnosticada por lesiones macro y microscópicas.

As aves são animais uricotélicos, ou seja, excretam o ácido úrico como produto final do metabolismo do nitrogênio, este que é oriundo da alimentação ou do catabolismo do tecido corporal. Considerada uma patologia metabólica, a gota úrica caracteriza-se pelo acúmulo anormal de cristais de ácido úrico em duas maneiras distintas: gota articular e gota visceral. Este trabalho relata um caso de gota úrica visceral em tucano toco (Ramphastos toco), diagnosticado por lesões macro e microscópicas.

Birds are uricotelic animals, they excret uric acid as the chief component of nitrogen metabolism, which comes from the feeding or catabolism of corporal tissue. Considered a metabolic pathology, uric gout is characterized by the abnormal accumulation of uric acid crystals. Its occurrence is possible in two different ways: articular gout and visceral gout. This present work reports a case of visceral gout on toucan toco (Rampastos toco), diagnosed by gross anatomy and histopathology.
