Abstract

There are a large number of research involving the social support networks, their characteristics and main consequences along the human development. Understanding the formation processes and structural of these networks seems of paramount importance in situations and factors determining risk especially in the childhood. The present review aims to elucidate the importance of social support in childhood and its implications on the child development process. It discusses the need for interdisciplinary studies involving the support network and how these could contribute to future studies about childhood.
