Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of the brightness and the support use in a continuous fixed bed anaerobic system for “manipueira” treatment (wastewater from cassava flour production). Two glass reactors (1,55L) were used, with relationship diameter/height 1: 2,5, and plastic rings as support. The reactors presented intermittent upflow and HRT equal to 3 and 5 days with inoculum concentration of 10, 25 and 50%. Analysis of pH, COD and alkalinity were accomplished according to APHA (1995). The feed concentration varied from 700 to 6800 mg COD . For the brightness influence, the results from treatment without brightness showed be -1 L significantly better also just for 1000 mg COD L-1 days) there wasn’t significant difference, but the discovered reactor became unstable. To the support use, the treatment didn’t present significant differences. And to the inoculum concentration, 25% reached better results.
