<p>O objetivo deste trabalho é, primeiramente, apresentar algumas discussões referentes aos termos “<strong>falsos cognatos</strong>”, “<strong>falsos amigos</strong>” e “<strong>cognatos enganosos</strong>”. Em um segundo momento, após concluirmos que os termos “falsos cognatos” e “cognatos enganosos” referem-se a dois fenômenos lingüísticos diferentes, propomos definições distintas para cada um deles, ilustrando com exemplos da prática, baseados na Teoria dos Conjuntos Matemáticos.</p>
