Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate, using strain gauge, the load distribution surround the implants according the cantilever length of implant-supported prosthesis by two or three implants. Sixteen polyurethane models were obtained from an acrylic block (10 x 7 x 2 cm). In half of these models two cylindrical implants with external hexagon were fixed (diameter: 3.75 mm; length: 11.5 mm) and positioned 8 mm between their centers in each model. On the other half, three parallels implants were fixed in the same conditions. The Multi-Unit abutments with 3 mm of metallic neck were connected to the implants. With the assistance of an aluminum device, it was manufacture sixteen acrylic resin patterns over the cast cylinders: eight with two implant and eight three implants. After, patterns were casted in cobalt-chromium alloy, using the casting conventional technique. Three strain gauges were positioned on the upper surface of the experimental polyurethane model around the implants. With an assistance of a device, the metallic bars were loaded with 10 Kg between the two implants near to the cantilever and 5, 10, 15, 2 and 25 mm along the cantilever length. The strain-gauge was connected to a multichannel bridge amplifier to form one leg of the bridge. The computer was interfaced with bridge amplifier to register output signs of polyurethane strain. Each point of loading was measured three times. The data were submitted to ANOVA (three-way) and Tukey test (p<0.05). The cantilever length affected negatively the load distribution around the implants around the implants (p<0.05). Such as conclusion t from the treatment of the data obtained (με): there wasn’t difference between the using of two or three implants on the stress distribution on the substrate of implants retention; how longer is the cantilever, higher stress around implants were generated.
