Abstract

Aiming to contribute in the field of conservative pulp treatment, the effect of some materials in the dental pulp of dogs were analyzed by optic microscopy. For this purpose, 60 permanent teeth of dogs 8 months old were used. Class V cavities were prepared in the labial surface and the pulp exposed. The experimental materials (dentinal adhesive system - Single Bond ; calcium hydroxide cement - Dycal ; gray mineral trioxide aggregate; white mineral trioxide aggregate) were placed on the pulp and the cavities were sealed with composed resin and zinc oxide-eugenol cement. The animals were killed 60 days after the treatment and the teeth prepared as the usual histological techniques. Serial sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin as well as by the Brown and Breen method. According to our histomorphologic results, we could rank the materials from the best to worst: 1) Gray MTA; 2) White MTA; 3) Calcium hydroxide cement; 4) Dentinal adhesive system
