Las cianobacterias son un diverso grupo de microorganismos procariotas cuya proliferación en masa da lugar a floraciones en las que se liberan sus metabolitos secundarios, entre los que destacamos las cianotoxinas, como las Microcistinas (MCs) y la Cilindrospermopsina (CYN), afectando así a la población expuesta, generando diferentes efectos tóxicos, además de crear problemas de índole tanto medioambiental, como económico.
