Abstract

The residential sector has experienced a growing energy demand in recent years and this increase is expected to continue. Besides this scenario, the development of digitization and automation of tasks in homes become a relevant issue. The electronic devices, which are increasingly present, cause the emergence of harmonic which reduce the electrical efficiency by increasing the losses and wear of the network elements. Faced with the forecast of continuous growth in the demand for electricity and the increase of the digitization in this sector arises the need to introduce measures of energy efficiency in the household electrical system. This tesis raises the analysis of reactive power compensation in the residential sector as a possible measure of efficiency. Reactive power compensation assumes network benefits such as increased capacity, improved tension, or decreased loss of strength. Although today this practice is mainly present in the industrial sector, the new events suggest a future in which the compensation of this effect is beneficial also in housing.
