Abstract

Se analizan las características esenciales del icono bizantino y sus valores religiosos. Se trata de establecer el punto de vista adecuado para comprender estas pinturas de iconos desde su finalidad religiosa, contrastándolas con obras contemporáneas semejantes de la pintura occidental europea. Se pretende prevenir al espectador, estudioso de la pintura y de la historia del arte para adoptar una actitud "religiosa" ante el icono, si pretende adentrarse en el misterio que encierra.
