Abstract

La salud gingival se ve comprometida durante el tratamiento de ortodoncia. Esto se ha asociado con un cambio en el ecosistema oral, alterando la composición de la placa bacteriana con aparición de periodontopatógenos y dificultando la higiene del paciente, lo que acaba desencadenando un proceso inflamatorio. Se han encontrado diferencias respecto a los signos clínicos y la severidad entre los pacientes. La interleuquina 1 es un mediador de los procesos inflamatorios e inmunológicos, que se encuentra aumentado durante la inflamación. El objetivo de este estudio prospectivo longitudinal, fue examinar la influencia del factor genético en la inflamación gingival durante el tratamiento de ortodoncia. Tras analizar los resultados obtenidos, se observó que existía una relación estadísticamente significativa entre la IL-1β y la inflamación gingival. El hecho de presentar polimorfismo genético a la IL1RN (rs419598) resultó ser un factor de riesgo para padecer inflamación gingival en pacientes con ortodoncia fija.El polimorfismo genético de nuestra población caucásica española es similar a otras poblaciones de la misma raza.
