Abstract

Introduction: Different surgical techniques to correct gingival recession have been described over the years, as many people are concerned about this esthetic problem. The subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) is a surgical procedure used to regenerate periodontal tissues to treat gingival recessions; however, every day new surgical techniques are developed in an effort to achieve similar results. Objective: To compare the level of root coverage obtained by using SCTG in gingival recessions with results from other surgical techniques. Materials and methods: After applying the inclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected to carry out the present systematic review. Trabajo Fin de Grado Berenice Domínguez Gallardo de Grado Berenice Domínguez Gallardo 6 Results: All articles compare the SCTG with different techniques and grafts used for root coverage in Miller’s class I and II gingival recessions. The highest percentage of root coverage was observed when using the SCTG; therefore it is considered the gold standard. Conclusions: Although there are multiple surgical techniques available to cover root recessions, the SCTG is considered the gold standard in terms of success, predictability and esthetics in covering root surfaces, as many authors reported better clinical results when using it.
