Abstract

El glaucoma es una de las enfermedades con más incidencia en el mundo. Su tratamiento farmacológico está destinado a disminuir la presión intraocular mediante la reducción del humor acuoso. Esta reducción de presión es necesaria tratarla en la mayoría de los casos con combinaciones de fármacos, entre los que se encuentran los fármacos empleados para desarrollar el presente estudio, acetazolamida y timolol maleato. Al tener vías de administración diferentes (oral y oftálmica respectivamente) se hace necesario el estudio una formulación oftálmica con ambos fármacos, pero debido a la baja solubilidad de acetazolamida es necesario recurrir a un agente complejante como es hidroxipropil-β-ciclodextrina, capaz de complejar e incrementar notablemente la solubilidad de acetazolamida. En el presente trabajo hemos evaluado la influencia de la temperatura en la degradación de acetazolamida y timolol maleato en presencia y ausencia del agente complejante durante seis meses. Los resultados obtenidos muestran una cinética de degradación de primer orden para acetazolamida, mientras que timolol maleato no presenta degradación en el período de tiempo ensayado y bajo las condiciones de nuestro ensayo. Es especialmente interesante la influencia de hidroxipropil-β-ciclodextrina en la cinética de degradación de acetazolamida, siendo capaz de incrementar sensiblemente la estabilidad de dicho fármaco en solución bajo las condiciones ensayadas.
