Empleo de fármacos derivados de las antraciclinas como agentes anticancerígenos

Abstract

Dentro de los compuestos con amplio interés en terapia anticancerosa se encuentran las antraciclinas, destacando la doxorubicina, la daunorubicina y la epirubicina. Estos fármacos son ampliamente usados en la clínica, ya que poseen propiedades anticancerígenas que ayudan a combatir diferentes tipos de cánceres, entre los que se incluyen tumores hematológicos y tumores sólidos. Se ha comprobado que la capacidad anticancerosa de las antraciclinas está íntimamente relacionada a la interacción de estos fármacos con la doble hélice de ADN, donde la estructura de las antraciclinas juega un papel fundamental. Así pues, la posterior inhibición de la enzima topoisomera-II, así como la formación de radicales libres constituyen algunos de los efectos anticancerígenos más importantes asociados a estos fármacos. No obstante, a pesar de su capacidad anticancerígena, el uso de las antraciclinas en terapia antineoplásica se encuentra limitado debido a sus efectos adversos, entre los que se destaca fundfundamentalmente la cardiotoxicidad. Esta revisión bibliográfica resume la capacidad anticancerígena de estos fármacos, así como sus aplicaciones en terapia anticancerosa y sus posibles efectos adversos.
