Abstract

This paper analyses the potentiality of organic agriculture as territorial development strategy, using as reference the Andalusian experience developed in the National Park known as Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas (Spain). This experience shows that it is possible to join natural resources preservation, agricultural production and socio-economic development. The methodology implemented in order to analyses this social process has been mainly qualitative, supported by different techniques as participant observation, open interview with key informants, and questionnaires. The main conclusion is that organic production has become, in this territory, a way to reduce agricultural contamination and increase biodiversity. In addition, it facilitates the incorporation of local population in natural resources management and also creates extra value to low competitive crops.
