Abstract

La pre-eclampsia (PE) es un trastorno hipertensivo específico del embarazo que se produce después de las 20 semanas de gestación. Es una de las principales causas de morbilidad y mortalidad materna y neonatal en todo el mundo, afectando al 3-5% de todos los embarazos. Este trastorno cursa con hipertensión, proteinuria y disfunción endotelial. Dada la dificultad para poder realizar ensayos en las mujeres embarazadas, se han realizado una gran variedad de modelos de experimentación tanto in vitro como in vivo con el fin de mejorar el manejo de la enfermedad. Los modelos in vitro se realizan para identificar los marcadores bioquímicos de la enfermedad con la finalidad de promover terapias preventivas para la PE. De todos los modelos realizados, el más utilizado es el cultivo de líneas celulares BeWo. Este modelo no presenta total seguridad a la hora de extrapolar los datos a los estudios in vivo, pero tiene una gran reproducibilidad y estabilidad frente a los otros métodos propuestos. Con respecto a los modelos de experimentación in vivo, se han realizado una gran variedad de estudios sobre animales de experimentación, normalmente en ratas, para investigar las posibles intervenciones que se pueden realizar en el tratamiento y prevención de esta enfermedad. Todos estos modelos propuestos tienen una limitación, que es la falta de reproducibilidad de las condiciones humanas durante un embarazo con PE. Pero a pesar de este inconveniente, los modelos in vivo han servido de gran ayuda para conocer la fisiopatología de la PE y poder actuar frente a ella
