Ciberespacio ¿nuevas identidades?

Abstract

Internet ofrece una plataforma donde las/os usuarias/os pueden explorar numerosas identidades y facetas de su personalidad, en tantos niveles diferentes y su imaginación es el único límite a su viaje de exploración. ¿Pero, qué y como se caracteriza la identidad de género on-line? Si por un lado, animados da la visión más utópica del ciberespacio, se esperaba una ruptura de los estereotipos socio-culturales todavía imperantes en la sociedad actual, por otro, estudios nos demuestran como los mundos virtuales pueden convertirse en un lugar de "hipermasculinidad" y de "hiper-feminidad" (Scharrer 2004) dando así lugar a una exageración de los comportamientos que se pretende suvertir con el cambio. "Si bien la tecnología amplía la capacidad del cuerpo de participar en la narración de significados, esta no mete el cuerpo en una extensión de la computadora. Lo que ofrece a la tecnología la base para ser su extensión, es el cuerpo vivido, la experiencia consciente…(Langellier y Peterson 2004:167) ...todavía abitada por identidades off-line. En la siguiente comunicación exploraremos el cambio de identidad en el ciberespacio, procurando entender como este cambio se caracteriza y en que manera influye en las identidades de género.
