La determinación en griego antiguo : el artículo

Abstract

In the following paper the authoress aims at an explanation of the artide based on one single value which comprchends aH its uses. The theory of prag- matícs provides the base for such an analysis ¡eading to a complexive explana- tion 01' the articJe 's fUBctions in the Ancient Greek language. Thc following facts are involved in the employment of the article: 1) the entíty tlesigned hy the noun does exist within the discourse universe shared by the interlocutors (referentiality); 2) the entity is acccssible. given, kno\vn anel unique for (he interlocutors as regareis specific sourccs. These sources pcrtain to the informa- tion provided either by the extralinguistic situation (situutional or generic "ha- red information) or the discourse itself (discourse information). The absence 01' the article bears meanings related to the following facts: 1) the entity designed by the noun do es exist but is indefinite; 2) the noun denotes a property, not an entity and it functions as an attribute.
