Abstract

En este artículo, el autor trata de reconsiderar la identidad de la Educación Ambiental en relación con los problemas del desarrollo. Para ello, se sirve de un análisis postestructural que analiza, en primer lugar, las debilidades del concepto mismo de desarrollo y de sus modelos históricos, principal-mente el modelo de desarrollo sostenible. A continuación, revisa críticamente las tendencias seguidas por la Educación Ambiental y señala sus funciones políticas ocultas. Propone, en consecuencia, una reorientación de la investigación y de la acción, de la teoría y la práctica, en este ámbito tan diverso. La Educación Ambiental debe abandonar su papel de mera transmisora de la cultura del desarrollo, cuyos principios siguen una lógica netamente económica. Debe promover la resistencia ante los dictados de esta cultura y cuestionar su representación de la realidad. La construcción de alguna alternativa viable sólo es posible escapando de la lógica del desarrollo. Los antropólogos expertos en estos temas suelen referirse al postdesarrollo como nuevo escenario para evitar los condicionamientos economistas, lineales y etnocéntricos de esa lógica. Valiéndose de ese argumento, el autor establece finalmente cuáles podrían ser las contribuciones básicas de la Pedagogía Ambiental en este marco de postdesarrollo.
