El tórculo, emblemático artefacto

Abstract

El tórculo es la máquina que asiste a todos los preparativos del grabador. Atrae a los artistas, a los técnicos, a los editores, a los críticos y al público ordinario y siempre aparece en cualquier conversación afín. Muchos escritores lo han nombrado desde el siglo XVII hasta la época contemporánea: Azaña, Miguel de Unamuno, José María de Pereda o Pío Baroja, quien nos regala maravillosos fragmentos sobre distintos episodios de entintado. Probablemente, es la inversión más importante de un grabador novel. La necesidad de disponer de estas máquinas en el estudio surgió en el siglo XIX relacionándose con el entintado libre. El capítulo El tórculo, emblemático artefacto dedica sus páginas a establecer su historia, sus distintas calidades, su funcionamiento y la forma en que un grabador establece su relación con él.
