Delimitando el turismo idiomático: ¿turismo cultural? ¿turismo educativo?

Abstract

El turismo idiomático es un fenómeno que está creciendo en importancia en los últimos años. Aunque la pandemia por COVID-19, como en el resto de la industria turística, supuso un retroceso, se estima que la llegada de turistas internacionacionales supere a finales de este año las cifras prepandemia. El rápido desarrollo del turismo idiomático, el impacto que genera y su potencial sobrepasan los aspectos meramente económicos, afectando a los sociales y medioambientales. Sin embargo, el turismo idiomático es un tema poco investigado y su conceptualización se ha planteado desde diferentes perspectivas, no existiendo un consenso sobre el tema. Ello genera que su entidad propia quede diluida por su incorporación, en muchas ocasiones, al turismo educativo o cultural, con el que comparte sólo algunas de sus características. En consecuencia, no siempre encuentra la ubicación adecuada en las líneas públicas de apoyo institucional, tanto a nivel nacional como autonómico. Dado el reto que ello plantea, la presente investigación realiza una revisión sistemática de la literatura en las bases de datos Web of Science (WoS) y Scopus, complementada por el análisis de publicaciones e informes sobre esta materia, con objeto de realizar un análisis conceptual de la investigación en turismo idiomático que ayude a definir su objeto y alcance como base para futuras investigaciones y como soporte para su adecuada ubicación en estrategias y políticas turísticas.
