Arquitecturas industriales y transformación creativa. Tres casos de estudio europeos

Abstract

This research focuses on identifying and studying significant cases of reprogramming of factory architecture and production buildings promoted by local creative communities. Their bottom-up management and intervention models and unique design strategies have enabled the conservation of these buildings as well as the implementation of new forms of production linked to the cultural and creative sector. Using a benchmarking methodology for the case studies selected -Tabačka Kulturfabrik (Slovakia), The Cable Factory (Finland) and Manifattura Tabacchi (Italy) -an analysis is carried out on how artisans, creatives and social collectives in these production strongholds have fought to preserve their architecture while also securing the place and the climate to develop innovative contemporary activities and ensure the survival of dwindling minority professions. This international phenomenon finds common components in different enclaves and contexts where a special bond is forged between communities and the industrial heritage and the environment in which they are located. Their processes also extend their field of action by influencing the social and urban dynamics of the neighbourhoods where they are found. Today, these creatively re-industrialised spaces are particularly unique places, fostering diversity and positive relations in terms of work, culture, affection, and identity, as is clear from these three case studies
