In this essay it is discussed the economic relevance ofprice and volume indices system, as it is proposed in the context of Natio-nal Accounts. Particularly, it is show that designed methods of computa-tion drives to results that are not necessarily linked to actual changes inquantities and unitary prices. The reason is not the lack of a very detailedlevel of disaggregation by branches of activity, up to the homogeneousproduct level, but rather the attempt to capture, by means of a purely phy-sical analysis, the variations in produced quantities.
