Se realiza una búsqueda en MEDLINE/Pubmed y Scopus utilizando la siguiente estrategia de búsqueda: (tooth bleaching OR teeth bleaching OR tooth whitening OR teeth whitening) AND (desensitizing OR dentin desensitizing OR desensitizing agents OR dentin desensitizers).
Introduction: There is evidence that indicate a possible relationship between desensitizing agents and their role in reducing tooth sensitivity (TS). The objective of this systematic review is to analyze the effect of the use of desensitizing agents (DA) in the appearance of tooth sensivity (TS) after tooth bleaching (TB). Methods: The review question is: does the administration of desensitizing agents, compared with the no administration of desensitizing agents, modify the incidence and severity of postoperative tooth hypersensitivity? A literature search of public data bases was conducted in MEDLINE/Pubmed and Scopus using the following search strategy: (tooth bleaching OR teeth bleaching OR tooth whitening OR teeth whitening) AND (desensitizing OR dentin desensitizing OR desensitizing agents OR dentin desensitizers). A total of 9 articles were chose to be discussed for this review. Results: After the selection of studies that fullfill the inclusion criteria and their analysis, it is observed that there are no significant results in the role of desensitizing agents in the reduction of postoperative dental hypersensitivity, but there is a slight association. Conclusion: The evidence shows that the clinical significance of this reduction in postoperative tooth sensitivity after the use of desensitizing agents is subtle and clinically questionable. Clinical relevance: Considering that postoperative dental hypersensitivity is the most common clinical consequence of dental whitening, strategies must be stablished to solve this common problem.
