Precancerous lesions are present in clinical practice and sometimes go unnoticed since we cannot detect what we do not know. It was concluded that early diagnosis, elimination of risk factors and treatment of PMOEL are of vital importance to reduce mortality and improve patient survival. Biopsy is the gold standard for obtaining a sample. The etiology of many OPMDs is still unknown, so further studies are needed to aid in the prevention of oral cancer development when potentially malignant oral lesions occur in patients.
