Abstract

Our purpose is to describe in this study the use of tú and se as impersonalization mechanisms in Seville, specifically, with a sample of 24 oral interviews of high sociolect, taken from the Corpus PRESEEA-Seville (2009-2018). For this, we took into consideration a series of the following parameters: linguistic (verb semantic class), pragmatic-discursive (semantic value of the impersonal form, theme of the conversation, discourse sequence, the polarity within the described event), social (gender and age) and stylistic (the relationship between the participants joining the interaction). Generally, the constructions with se and the non-referential tú use to appear with verbs which indicate physical activity. The pronoun tú is present in all the impersonalization levels, except in exclusive generalization where the pronoun se prevails. In addition, both tú and se are above all related to themes of general interest. Similarly, we find them in expositive sequences. Instead, in positive circumstances, the impersonal tú rules over se, which is used in negative clauses. Regarding the age, these impersonalization mechanisms are predominant in men, women and second-generation category.
