Biología sintética en cianobacterias

Abstract

Cyanobacteria show features indicating their great potential as new model organisms for the biotechnology industry, as well as for the research and development of more profitable and sustainable alternatives than those used to date. This work is a bibliographic review of synthetic biology in cyanobacteria, which shows a great advance in a short time. However, a greater effort is still needed to clarify many aspects that allow their optimal use. For the writing, the most common tools used have been selected that follow the principles that define synthetic biology, such as standardization or modularity. Among them, modular plasmids, the box of genetic parts, such as promoters, riboswitches or CRISPR technology are described. Pros and cons of their use are discussed, as well as variability of results between different strains, some being more suitable than others depending on the purpose in each case.
