Efecto de los polifenoles sobre la longevidad

Abstract

There are many studies that have shown over the last years the beneficial effects of polyphenols for the general public and specifically for the older generations. This paper studies the treatments and the diversity of chronic illnesses associated with aging populations. We explain the status of this issue in terms of the definition of aging versus longevity and the types of illnesses as well as treatments used for their control. This bibliographic revision has also studied the main molecular mechanisms that take place in the human body during the aging process, as well as the properties and therapeutic potential of polyphenols, such as resveratrol (antioxidant effects), and the Mediterranean diet. This thesis demonstrates the importance of the numerous investigations concerned about nutrition and foods rich in polyphenols for aging control and longevity promotion.
