Abstract

El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) se origina durante el neurodesarrollo y se caracteriza por dificultades en las interacciones sociales, la comunicación y la presencia de patrones de movimiento repetitivos (estereotipias). Su etiología sigue siendo desconocida para la comunidad científica, aunque se sabe que el ambiente es uno de los factores que influyen en él. Si bien está muy estudiado el factor ambiental en el desarrollo de las áreas corticales implicadas en las características de este trastorno, apenas hay investigaciones centradas en las áreas subcorticales. Este trabajo estudió la influencia de las infecciones maternas como posible factor ambiental en el neurodesarrollo del núcleo accumbens, una de las regiones subcorticales encargadas del control de la actividad motora, con una posible implicación en las estereotipias del TEA. Para ello, se usó un modelo animal preclínico de activación inmune materna, al cual se le inyectó un compuesto para simular una infección viral. Mediante técnicas de imnunohistoquímica se estudió el neurodesarrollo de las neuronas inhibitorias de esta región en la descendencia y se determinó si esta perturbación en la gestación influyó en ella.
