Abstract

The presence of emotional and anxiety problems is investigated in three groups of children: 55 are asthmatics, 87 healthy children and 32 children with other chronic illnesses. The first and third groups were taken from the Hospital Infantil Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, and the second from a group of Seville schools. Two psychological tests were applied: the drawing of the human figure and the STAIC, and the results were analysed statistically using Chi-square and Student's t-tests, respectively. The results show a higher number of indicators of emotional disorders in asthmatic children (p=0.032) when compared to the rest of the sample. On the other hand, asthmatic children score highest on state anxiety and lowest on trait anxiety.
