Abstract

The popularity of UASs has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and their use is expected to continue increasing in the coming decades. Therefore, it is expected that the airspace will be more congested. In this context, new mechanisms are necessary to guarantee the safety of operations and to maximize the occupation of airspace. In this context, 4D trajectory-based operations (4D-TBO) are defined, which add the temporal dimension to each spatial position. In this way, it is defined in the flight plan at which exact moment the UAS will be at a specific point. In this project reasons have been given why it is considered necessary to extend these operations in one more dimension by adding the UAS yaw, 5D-TBO. For this purpose, a 5D trajectory follower has been developed to be able to follow a predefined 5D flight plan. The 5D follower is designed to work with any type of aircraft, regardless of its rotor or wing configuration. In order to validate the 5D follower, a methodology has been followed that seeks to prioritize the security of platforms and users. For this reason, the simulations were first carried out until it was considered safe to carry out real flights. The validation of the work has been carried out by flying indoors in a testbed, using the Crazyflie 2.1 platform. In these flights and in previous simulations, the project has been validated. In addition, simulations have been carried out on other platforms to check the versatility of the follower.
