Abstract

Objectives: To analyze the socio-demographic characteristics of the victim and the aggressor in gender-based violence, as well as the types of violence, mechanisms of aggression and the types of maxillofacial and stomatognathic system injuries resulting from violence in women. Material and method: Literature review using Pubmed and Google Academic databases. Results and conclusions: Gender violence can appear at any age and women can be victims regardless of their level of education and ethnicity. In most cases, the aggressor is the woman’s current partner. The most common form of violence is physical abuse, with a high frequency of injuries in the maxillofacial region, the injuries of the middle third being the most prevalent. The dentoalveolar complex is most commonly affected followed by the orbital bone, the arch zygomatic, the nasal bone and the jaw. As for the oral cavity, crown fractures were the most commonly observed, followed by avulsion and mobility.
