Abstract

In this work we are going to address one of the most used control strategies in recent decades in the industrial sector, the Model Predictive Control (MPC). In this case, the application is going to be in a solar parabolic-trough plant, more specifically ACUREX, already studied in several previous articles. Unlike these, the main objective of this document will be to include in the Toolbox the Fluid Mechanics equations that model the behavior of the plant pump. Among them, we will focus on the variations presented by useful power of the installation, a variable obtained through the consumption of the pump and the maximization of the net thermal power of the plant, which will be calculated in the predictive with different optimization methods (local MPC or centralized MPC) and for different models of the solar field (complete plant or a single plant loop). In addition, we will consider thermal storage as one of the advantages and strengths of this technological application, its development and implementation in the simulation code for future work being of great interest.
