El espacio de Minkowski. la relatividad especial

El espacio de Minkowski. la relatividad especial

Abstract

In 1905 Einstein published his theory about Special Relativity, which successfully explained the motion of particles in inertial reference frames. It was decisive for the further development of the theory that Minkowski unified space and time into one single entity, the spacetime. From this mathematical point of view, physical events are treated as points in Minkowski spacetime. The aim of this work is to describe Minkowski spacetime as a fourth-dimensional Lorentz manifold in which some consequences from Special Relativity can be developed, as time dilation and length contraction. In order to achieve this objetive, Lorentz transformations will be defined based on Minkowski charts to endow Minkowski space with a vector space structure. Indeed, its causal structure will be studied, as well as orientability. Finally, some physical notions will be defined, as observers and its clocks.
