Esferas de homología

Abstract

In this Final Undergraduate Project we will deal with Homology Spheres, spaces with the same integer homology groups of the n-sphere but not homeomorphic to it in general. After introducing some required notions of Homotopy Theory, we will study in great detail the Poincaré sphere (also called Poincaré dodecahedron), the first historic example of an homology sphere. Later, other examples will be described, as Brieskorn manifolds or Seifert spheres. We will also discuss Dehn Surgery, a technique of great importance in Geometric Topology, that in particular is useful to construct any homology 3-sphere which possess a structure of closed manifold.
