¿Culturalmente Corruptos?: Análisis del Impacto de la Cultura Nacional en la Corrupción

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the national culture on corruption. Although the specialized literature is abundant, the debate remains open and the results depend on the notion of culture and corruption selected. Taking as reference the study conducted by Huggins et al. (2012), this article seeks to analyze which of the dimensions that make up the national culture generate that impact. To achieve this objective, the case of 137 countries will be analyzed and a multivariate analysis technique based on partial least squares (PLS) will be used. To measure corruption, the Corruption Perception Index 2019 prepared by Transparency International will be used. The results indicate that the cultural variables of adherence to work and employment, social cohesion, tendency to take risks, balance of life and femininity, and collective actions are significant variables on the perceptions of corruption in the country.
