Abstract

En México, en los años 20, unos pintores alzaban la voz para recuperar su propia tradición. “Su Europa”. Una voz que alcanzaba su dimensión plástica en un soporte que os europeos adoptarían muchas décadas después: el muro. Unas obras monumentales, que hablaban de revolución, de tradición, de igualdad, y de una calidad inmensa. Este crisol tan complejo constituiría lo que hoy se conoce como Muralismo Mexicano. Un movimiento que, aunque estudiado, especialmente desde un punto de vista valorativo, y, en muchos casos, solapado por otras tendencias de la época en manuales de arte contemporáneo, supuso un antes y un después en el arte de América Latina. Esto, que, nunca mejor dicho, podría calificarse como una revolución, dio lugar a un estilo artístico que sobrepasaba, por sí mismo, la dimensión plástica de la obra de arte, intrínsecamente unido a la lucha política y a la reivindicación de una tradición que intentaba ser olvidada a través de la implantación de modelos europeos. Querían “recuperar” su propia historia, que había sucumbido tras el colonialismo y poscolonialismo.
