Abstract

Caries is an infectious disease of multifactorial origin that affects 60-90% of the child population and the majority of adults. It is one of the main reasons for consulting patients at dental clinics and their late diagnosis and, consequently, the establishment of an incorrect treatment plan results in a deterioration of oral health. The development of new methods of caries diagnosis has gained importance in recent years. In this way, visual, tactile and radiographic diagnosis are complemented by more advanced technology such as laser-induced fluorescence or electronic caries detection. All this contributes to an improvement in the diagnosis and the establishment of caries in the initial stages, and more conservative and less invasive treatments can be achieved; Thus providing a better quality of oral health.
