In this paper, I reflect upon nationalism in relation to the subjects’ mechanisms of identification with the nation, as a specific historical manifestation, from which the legitimacy a given political order and its ethical values emanate. For this, I discuss Antonio Gramsci’s notion of national-popular as a complex matrix embracing two main questions: The nationalist engagement of the subject and the hegemonic or subaltern relationships between the different social groups that conform the nation.
