Abstract

La secrecion de hormona de crecimiento esta inhibida en el sindrome de cushing, sin embargo se desconocen los mecanismos exactos por los que el hipercortisolismo cronico determina dicha inhibicion. El objetivo de la presente tesis doctoral ha sido intentar aportar algun dato en el esclarecimiento de los posibles mecanismos implicados, y para ello se han llevado a cabo una serie de pruebas de manipulacion farmacologica en pacientes con sindrome de cushing. De los resultados obtenidos, hemos concluido que el efecto del exceso cronico de los glucocorticoides sobre la inhibicion de la secrecion de hormona de crecimiento, esta mediado por una severa alteracion hipotalamica que comporta una disminucion de la secrecion de ghrh y probablemente un aumento de la de somatostatina, y por efecto directo a nivel hipofisario sobre las celulas somatotropas.
