Karadeniz bölgesinde misyonerlik faaliyetleri

Abstract

Missionaries in Anatolia lived their most brilliant periods in the 19th century. Missionaries took the advantage of this period which Ottoman Empire lost its strength. They intensively conducted their activities such as opening schools, establishing associations, supporting agencies and organizations in this period. Missionary organizations who accepted the people who have ethnic identities in the target group, lived a standstill period when Muslims won the national struggle in Anatolia. But in the last quarter of 20th century, by taking the advantage of changing world conjuncture, missionaries increased their activities in our country again. One of the missionaries? operating fields is ?the Black Sea Region?. Today, missionaries continue their activities by the agency of Catholic and Protestant churches in Samsun and Trabzon that are active and by the agency of western origin institutions and organizations established under various names in the region or individually. In addition, today missionaries do historical researches towards ethnic identities of Greek, Armenian, Laz, Hemsin, Georgian citizens who live especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region. They tell these people that they are actually Christians -the superior civilization- and also tell them that their grandfathers are assimilated and forced to become Muslims by Muslims. In these activities which are focused on the regions Samsun, Trabzon and Rize, missionaries seize every opportunity they have and they even use the touristic trips for making propaganda.
