Modernism that occurred with the results of Industrial Revolution and Enlightenment caused new formations and changes especially in cities. The new city centers which developed around the traditional city centers caused the cities gain their modern character with the buildings which had new functions and architectural approaches. The period called “Populist Modernity” between the years of 1945 and 1960 is a period important with its political, economic and socio-cultural developments for Turkey. Reflections of these developments on formation of modern city centre and architectural case in Eskisehir has been examined through the examples selected. The buildings selected has been analysed in context of their architectural characteristics and approaches, relations with the city with their characteristics differ from the others.
Sanayi devrimi ve aydınlanma ile ortaya çıkan modernizm kentlerde özellikle de kent merkezlerinde yeni oluşum ve değişimlere neden olmuştur. Geleneksel merkezlerin çevresinde şekillenen bu yeni kent merkezleri, bünyesinde barındırdığı yeni işlev ve mimari anlayıştaki yapılarla kentlere modern karakterini kazandırmışlardır. “Popülist modernite” olarak adlandırılan 1945 ve 1960 yılları arası Türkiye için siyasi, ekonomik, sosyo -kültürel açılardan önem taşıyan bir dönemi oluşturmaktadır. Bu dönemde Türkiye’deki gelişmelerin Eskişehir’deki mimari ortama ve modern kent merkezinin oluşumuna yansımaları, seçilen örnekler doğrultusunda incelenmiştir. Çalışmada ele alınan yapılar, taşıdıkları mimari özellik ve anlayışları, kent ile olan ilişkileri bağlamında, onları diğerlerinden farklı kılan özellikleriyle irdelenmiştir.
