Mimarlıkta deneyim söylemi

The discourse of experience in architecture

Mimarlıkta deneyim söylemi

Abstract

This research, which is based on Agamben's theory of `the destruction of experience`, discusses the architectural texts derived from the assumption of a crisis of experience. The aim of the research can be summed up as presenting various positions through this change and the usage of `experience discourse` in the field of architecture rather than trying to understand what `spatial experience` is. In this context, various ideas from the texts of Le Corbusier, Nieuwenhuys, Rasmussen, Norberg-Schulz, Pallasmaa and Zumthor were discussed in terms of their approaches to spatial experience. Despite different positions of these texts, they have some common points such as the assumption of a critical change in the nature of experience and handling this change as the loss of `authenticity /reality`. It can be inferred that each of these texts create their own legitimising base by asserting one type of experience as more authentic and more real. This research offers an approach to re-review all these texts claiming their ideas as ways of making architectural experiences possible again, according to Agamben's theory and critics of Adorno.
