Positive psychology and a critical approach to psychological capital and PCQ

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Today’s organizations, leaders, and employees, continuously exposed to numerous impacts such as political, juridical, paradigm shifts, market movements, and financial turmoil, unlimited technological and conceptual innovations, value conversions, wars, global pandemics, are surrounded by significant uncertainties and risks related to those factors. Within this unsettled and volatile environment, the more constant and nonprogressive traditional capital pattern is being replaced by a new understanding, placing the human in its foundation and providing a competitive advantage. One means to enhance human capital to gain a competitive advantage is through assessing and developing psychological capital. Positive Psychological Capital is deemed developable by workplace interventions and measurable by the Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PCQ). Given its popularity, the psychometric capability of PCQ became crucial than ever. In this study, with a sample of N=222 active workers in different hierarchical levels, the psychometrics of PCQ was tested with its deemed problematic reverse-scored items converted to positive items. The GOF indices demonstrated that the 12-items model had perfect fit the current sample.
